Mini prayers, mighty power

Our everyday habits can either be sources of light or darkness. Instead of spewing curses or taking the Lord's name in vain, try this: create a habit of aspirations. Also called invocations, aspirations are short prayers - often uttered in one breath - expressing sentiments of petition or charity. These mini prayers can be recited any time and help calm fears and dissipate disturbances.

When you're upset, try repeating slowly and with intention one of the following aspirations:

  • O God, help me.
  • Lord, I place my trust in You.
  • Comfort me, Jesus.
  • Mother of Sorrows, pray for us.
  • Jesus, I love You.
  • My Lord, have mercy.
  • Lamb of God, grant us peace.
